Kitsap County Speedway

What are your thoughts?  Do you support the construction of NASCAR, or do you reject it?  Why?

I’m still in the middle.  Positively, the jobs and facility will be good for our economy.  Not being taxed more for it was also a big weight off my shoulders.  But, negatively, the traffic to get there, and the kind of people it brings may not be the best for Washington.

What do you think?  Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be long, you can make it short.  I would just really like to know what everyone else thinks!

Here is a flyer I received in the mail:

“Why?

1. Jobs and Economic Development:

The speedway will create thousands of jobs and generate more than $4 billion of short and long term economic development for Washington State.

2. The Speedway Facility will be Available for Local Community Use:

During the time major racing events are not being held, the speedway facility will be available fore community sports fields, highschool technical and college educational programs and opportunities for charitable organizations.

3. Environmental Protection and Traffic Management:

The speedway will be built with the highest level of environmental protection and it will effectively manage traffic an congestion on the three race weekends per year.

4. No New Taxes Required:

No new taxes will be created to pay for the speedway, and existing taxes will no be increased.

5. Great Western Sports will Pay for any Construction Cost Overruns

It’s time for our State Legislators to join us in building the Kitsap County Speedway.

We need our local Legislators to join with Chambers of Commerce, Labor Councils and thousands of our friends and neighbors in supporting the speedway.  It’s good for our local economy and for the State of Washington as a whole.  It’s time to ask our Legislators to stand up for us in Olympia and make building the speedway in Kitsap County their number one priority.

Please contact your state Senator and state Representatives.  Tell them to stand with us to do something extraordinary for our local communitry.  It’s our turn to enjoy an economic boom from having a mojor national tourist attraction in our area.”

  1. I really have no opinion about that. But at the AWANA conference this year I went to a workshop that was led by the Pastor of Grace Bible (which is really close to where they’ll be building the speedway) and he said, “Well, it’s going to be really hard to find a replacement pastor….”

LOL. He loves Nascar. I thought that was pretty funny.

But like I said, I don’t really care.

  2. I was just talking with some friends last night, and I found that one major issue is the traffic. They are going to build it in an ural area by Gorst, and a small airplane stripe. There will have to be reconstruction to make that area around there ready for tourists. Roads, hotels, fast foods, etc…. maybe not, I’m not positive if this will happen, but it is a though!
